Fourth-year students organize a fun-filled initiation for the new students.

The first year Initiation is a formal welcome for the first-year students to the high school. It is a festive event where older students prepare a program and various skill tests for freshmen.

Organizers of the program believe that their tasks are funny and original but students from the first-year classes are often frustrated and embarrassed to perform these tasks.

I wanted to find out how this year's “freshmen – my schoolmates” felt about the program of First Year Initiation. They commented, but they didn´t want to be identified.

The First Year Initiation for students of the first classes was organized in our school in October 2010. Students from the fourth-year classes organized the event program. It was held in the dining room of our school and each of the students from the first classes had to buy tickets for this First Year Initiation.

My schoolmates had various expectations from this event. Some of us enjoyed it; others were concerned or wanted to be in the centre of attention. Some of us weren´t interested.

The program which they created consisted of tasks where freshmen had to use their fantasy and creativity such as imitating various people or animals and the others had to guess who or what is it. Furthermore, adrenaline activities like jumping from the board while having closed their eyes were included. There were also funny activities like putting as much chewing gums into your one´s mouth and then reading poetry or picking up apples from the water with one’s mouth.

Most of my classmates found that the program was good; a minority evaluated the program as poor and they would completely change it. Some of my classmates also suggested a new activity in the program.

The disco was ranked as the best part of the program. The music was great and everyone could dance. The advantage was also that we knew each other as we were from one and the same class. The worst thing about it was considered to be the reading of the names of those who had to go and perform various tasks put forward before all students.

In conclusion, it can be said that the event was well-organized and that freshmen were welcomed appropriately. Everyone enjoyed the program and mainly the disco at the end. One of the main purposes of this event is to join students from different years together.
