Is Chapel Interesting? By Vladimira Dravikova.
Every Wednesday at 10am the cafeteria is busy because the Evangelical Lyceum begins a short service with the name of Chapel. Ms. Kolesárová, who runs Chapel, grew up in a parish where God was "at home". Her view is that everyone must start to believe in God on their own and she managed to do it when she was about 13 years old. The last two years she has been teaching religion at the Evangelical Lyceum. Chapel has fascinated her from the beginning.
Chapel is a short service on Wednesdays in our cafeteria. During the Chapel, Mrs. Kolesárova, Professor A. Rudberg (from America) and also invited guests speak. Planning Chapel takes time which is hard to find but overall preparations for the sermon take 2-3hours and practicing the song also 2-3 hours. At Chapel, students are selected in advance to sing a theme song. Mrs.Kolesarová says, "We do not have school cantor and all the music is prepared always with another group with another class. Sometimes I find it a miracle that we keep it. It is also interesting to observe the atmosphere of the 1st and 2nd Chapel. We always are trying to do it the same, but it's always a little different. "
When asked about the genesis of Chapel, I received an interesting answer. "I do not know exactly the Chapel genesis. But certainly the conditions for creating Chapel began gradually. Settlor (ECAV) certainly wanted to offer such a possibility from the beginning, but with a hearty American help, starting Chapel becamse easier, because they had more experience."
And the last thought Mrs.Kolesarovej wished to mention about Chapel is ... "Chapel - it's precious time. Since the beginning of my work at the Evangelical Lyceum, I enjoyed this hour. These young people inspire me to seek more useful subjects and it is easier to understand the problems that young people have today. And yet I see that this world is changing but spiritual issues remain the same. Everyone yearns for love, for respect, after that he knows who he is and what is the meaning of his life.Chapel makes sense also because it teaches us to listen. God's word teaches us to respect each other, stick to a certain order. I am glad that we can offer a Christian world view and glorify God together on a regular basis."
As I said, Chapel is interesting and valuable for us. We must listen and everything will better.
