Evangelical Lyceum Sports in Košice. By Miriam Babálová.
Twenty lyceum students represented Evangelical lyceum in Košice on 9-10.6.2011 by playing volleyball (girls), futsal (boys) and basketball (boys). It was a friendly tournament between Slovak Lutheran schools.
Early Thursday morning we met at 5:35 on the main railway station. Everything went without stress and the train left at 5:52.Most students were sleeping on the train, because they were tired from such a short sleep. That train was really fast. We arrived in Košice by 10 o´clock. In Košice we transported by tram to the Evangelical bilingual High school. Then we got a lunch and the matchs started. Girls played volleyball in the school gym and boys should played futsal on the school yard. The futsal is similar to the football, but it is usually played in a gym. The futsal has smaller field and there are only six players. But because of the storm and sudden downpour, boys couldn´t play futsal outside, so they were taken by car to the other gym in Košice.
In this friendly tournament came six lutheran schools : Tisovec, Banská Bystrica, Košice, Prešov, Bratislava and Liptovský Mikuláš. Evangelical lyceum from Bratislava won the first place in volleyball match. The volleyball match against Banská Bystrica will be unforgettable for all players. We won one of the two sets for 15:0 becauseof our captain Veronika Urbanovičová´s giving ball. Boys won the second place in futsal.
We were staying in the dorm near to the school about five minutes uphill. On Thursday´s evening we had free time to go to the center of Košice or wherever we want.
On Friday was the basketball tournament. Boys from our lyceum won the third place. Very nice at this tournament was, that every team, which was there, was friendly to the other team. Not only on the beginning but also at the end.
Here are what the students said about this tournament in Košice:
“I was pleased that the girls, who were at the tournament were friendly and it was really friendly tournament. I disliked that the gym was terribly stuffy. But Košice is nice city. I thought, that we will be on the second place, but to my surprise there were quite weak teams so we won.“ Natália Kinczerová
“This trip to Košice was great. The journey was long, but even so it was a pleasant time with cool people.I liked that despite the fact that we have all those teams defeated, they were kind and friendly. I disliked that some people were really annoying (for ex. Inspectors in the tram) and for the accommodation we had to wait for a long time. I expected that we will be one of the better teams, but to my surprise we won.“ Nika Galová
“I liked that other teams were kind to us even after losing. The medails which we got are very nice and the food was good. I disliked that it was in Košice (it is so far), a long way and we had to get up so early. When I saw other teams, I thought that we will be on one of the first three places , but I didn´t expect that we will beat Košice, so it was nice surprise. “ Lucia Hollá
